Thunder Split Doubleheader with DePauw

ANGOLA, Ind.-- The 11th-ranked Trine softball team split two games with DePauw Saturday afternoon at SportONE/Parkview Field, winning the opener 4-1 and falling in the finale 6-4.

Game One: Trine 4, DePauw 1

Justine Robles (Long Beach, Calif. / Lakewood) pitched a complete game and sister Erica Robles (Long Beach, Calif. / Lakewood) extended her hitting streak to 12 games as Trine took the first game. Trine went to 12-5 overall with the win, while DePauw fell to 5-11.

Justine pitched seven innings of two-hit ball, giving up an unearned run and striking out six while walking one. Erica Robles and Kendra Marshall (Leesburg, Ind. / Warsaw) each had three hits.

DePauw opened the scoring in the second after an error led to an RBI single by Gabby Smart. Trine tied it in the bottom of the third on an RBI single from Marshall. The Thunder scored what would ultimately be the winning run in the fifth on a Lainey McCue (Westlake, Ohio / Westlake) RBI double, and tacked on two more with an RBI single from Rachel Zink (Gahanna, Ohio / Gahanna Lincoln) and a throwing error on a double steal.

Trine had nine hits to DePauw's two, but the Thunder left 10 runners on base.

Robles got the win, making her 7-2 on the season. Emma Baldwin (2-6) took the loss for the Tigers.

Game 2: DePauw 6, Trine 4

Kaylee Fox (Vermilion, Ohio / Edison) paced the Thunder with two RBIs as they dropped the second game 6-4, sending them to 12-6 on the season. DePauw improved to 6-11.

Four players had multiple hits for the Tigers, including Sidney Holler, who led the team with three.

The two teams each scored a pair of runs in the first inning. Trine took the lead with two in the second, one of them coming on a throwing error. DePauw answered with help from a Trine error in the fourth, when Katerina Panos scored on a throwing error.

The next inning, the Tigers took a 5-4 lead on back-to-back RBI hits by Smart and Panos. DePauw added another in the sixth on a Linsey Button squeeze bunt. Trine got the potential tying run to third with two outs in the seventh, but couldn't drive the run in.

The second game was an inverse of the first, as DePauw outhit Trine 14 to 5 and left 10 runners on base.
