Ravens defeat Thunder in Walk-Off Fashion

ANDERSON, Ind.-- Anderson scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to earn a 7-6 victory over Trine in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon at Raven Field.

The Ravens tied the score with a run scoring on an error before Blake Thomas' sacrifice fly scored Taylar Kelso with the winning run. Anderson scored six runs in the final three innings to overcome what was a three-run Thunder lead through four innings. Shelby Shaffer hit a three-run homer as part of a two-hit day for the Ravens. Alison Lang (Rome City, Ind. / East Noble) launched her first career homer as part of a two-hit day for Trine. Game two of the doubleheader was cancelled due to thunderstorms.

Anderson opened the scoring in the bottom of the first as Megan Wade scored on an error with two outs. The Ravens scored two unearned runs in the contest.

Kaitlyn Clark (Mount Juliet, Tenn. / Wilson Central) answered in the top of the third with an RBI-double to center to score Emily White (Fortville, Ind. / Mount Vernon). Clark collected two hits in the game to move into a tie with Andi Gasco (2010-13) for second in team history with 192 career hits.

Lang's first career homer gave the Thunder the lead an inning later. Singles by Kaylee Fox (Vermilion, Ohio / Edison) and Lainey McCue (Westlake, Ohio / Westlake) put two on with one out. Lang then pulled a pitch over the left field wall to give Trine the 4-1 lead.

The Ravens began to fight back in the bottom of the fifth as Shaffer scored on Kelso's RBI single. One inning later, Shaffer gave Anderson a 5-4 lead with a two-out, three-run homer to right.

Trine took the lead right back in the top of the seventh, as Clark singled with one out to start the rally. Kendra Marshall (Leesburg, Ind. / Warsaw) followed with a two-run homer to left to give the Thunder a 6-5 lead. The homer was Marshall's first of the season and the eighth of her career. Marshall's homer was the first earned run allowed by Anderson reliever Ashley Cleverley in 21.2 innings this season.

A double and walk set the stage for the Ravens in the seventh. A run scored off an error on a sac bunt attempt, which put the runners at the corners with none out. Thomas' sac fly proved deep enough to score Kelso with the winning run.

Trine fell to 12-7 on the year. Anderson improved to 9-6.

The Thunder open MIAA play this Saturday, Apr. 2 against Adrian. First pitch at SportONE/Parkview Softball Field is scheduled for 1 p.m.
