Trine to Host NCAA Division III Softball Super Regional

ANGOLA, Ind.-- Trine will host St. Thomas (Minn.) in the NCAA Division III Softball Angola Super Regional, the NCAA revealed.

The Thunder and Tommies will meet for game one Friday, May 20 at 4 p.m. at Trine University's SportONE/Parkview Softball Field. The two teams will return to the field Saturday, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. The Super Regional follows a best-of-three format, with the if-necessary  game following the first game on Saturday. This will be the first time in school history Trine has played host to a Super Regional.

St. Thomas is located in Saint Paul and competes in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Tommies own a 41-6 record and won all three of their games in the Lake Forest Regional, defeating Wisconsin-Whitewater and earning two wins over Lake Forest. St. Thomas has won two National Championships in school history.

The Thunder punched its ticket to the Super Regional round by sweeping three opponents in the Angola Regional. Trine capped off its second Regional Championship with a dominating 15-3 victory over University of Chicago. The Thunder own a 33-12 overall record. Trine is 2-0 all time in Super Regional competition, having swept Emory to advance to the National Championships in 2014.

The winner of the Angola Super Regional advances to the NCAA Division III Softball Championship in Salem, Va., where they would meet the winner of the Super Regional between Emory and Benedictine (Ill.).
