Ray Named MIAA Pitcher of the Week

FREELAND, Mich. -- Trine's Danielle Ray was named the MIAA Softball Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced today.

Ray (Hamilton, Ohio / Badin) earned the win or save in each of her six appearances on the week. The freshman finished 3-0 with three saves, including complete game victories over No. 4 Luther and No. 6 Messiah. She worked to a 1.37 ERA in 30.2 innings, striking out 30 while walking just six. In two games against ranked opponents, Ray allowed a combined two earned runs on seven hits with 10 strikeouts in 15 innings pitched. She earned her first Pitcher of the Week honors as a member of the Thunder.

In Ray's first matchup against a top 10 foe, she retired the last 16 batters of the game in order in a 3-1 victory over Messiah. In the complete game, seven-inning outing, she struck out seven and allowed an earned run on two hits with one walk. She struck out the side in the seventh. Ray worked all eight innings of Trine's 3-1 victory over No. 4 Luther. She allowed an earned run on five hits, walked three and struck out three to earn the win.

In nine appearances this season, Ray has worked to a 6-0 record and 1.86 ERA with three saves. She ranks second in the MIAA with 45 strikeouts. Ray has surrendered just 38 hits over 52.2 innings of work.

Trine off to a 16-0 start, the team's longest undefeated streak to open a season in program history. The Thunder finished 12-0 on its spring break trip to the Rebel Spring Games, posting wins over No. 4 Luther, No. 6 Messiah and then-No. 19 Cortland.

Trine returns to action Saturday, Mar. 25 for its home-opener against Anderson (Ind.). First pitch at SportONE/Parkview Softball Field is scheduled for 1 p.m.
