Robles and Ray Tabbed MIAA Athletes of the Week

FREELAND, MICH. -- The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) conference office has announced that senior Erica Robles and sophomore Danielle Ray from the Trine University softball team will be this week's MIAA Athletes of the Week. 

Robles (Long Beach, Calif. / Lakewood) was named the conference's Position Athlete of the Week. She led the team offensively during the week starting all of the teams eight games. She accumulated a .714 batting percentage and a 1.143 slugging percentage during those games. Robles tallied 20 hits including one double, four triples and a home run during the week. She added nine RBIs and seven stolen bases as well.

Robles played spectacularly through the week recording two games where she batted 1.000. Four of her RBIs came in the first game of the week against Coe College when she went three for four in the box and recorded her one dinger of the week.

Overall Robles currently leads the team in hits (32), triples (4), batting average (.653), slugging percentage (.959) and on-base percentage (.660).

Ray (Hamilton, Ohio / Badin) was named the MIAA Pitcher of the Week. She gave the Thunder three quality starts this week allowing just eight hits and two runs while striking out 12. During those starts, Ray accumulated a 1.29 ERA.

Ray culminated the week with her first career no-hitter in the teams 8-0 win over Cornell (Iowa) College. She allowed just one baserunner in the game coming on a walk int he first inning. 

So far this season, Ray leads the team with a 5-0 record on the mound. In her 31 innings pitched she has allowed just 10 earned runs for a team-best 2.26 ERA. She also leads the team with 19 strikeouts.

The Thunder finished off their spring break trip to Arizona last week, posting a 7-1 record to improve to 12-2 overall. Trine will continue their season by attending the DePauw Invitational which will take place at Grand Park in Westfield, Ind. They will start the weekend slate of games by facing off with Illinois Wesleyan at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 17.
