Softball Drops Game One of NCAA Regional

WHITEWATER, WIS. -- The Trine University softball team dropped their opening contest of the NCAA Regional with Coe College coming out on top by the score of 12-2.

The Kohawks came out strong in the first two innings plating all of their 12 runs before the Thunder were able to score one of their own. 

Trine came away with their two runs in the top of the third when Emily White (Fortville, Ind. / Mount Vernon) beat out the throw from the third baseman to reach with one out. White advanced to second on a passed ball.

Erica Robles (Long Beach, Calif. / Lakewood) reached on a single to the shortstop, advancing White to third base. The Thunder then pulled off the double steal scoring with both Robles and White recording a steal, White scoring.

Freshman Mercede Daugherty (Watervilet, Mich. / Watervilet) drove in Robles with a single to center field to record the second and final run for the Thunder. Both teams would go scoreless the rest of the game and Trine would fall by the score of 12-2.

Following the loss, the Thunder will next compete in the first elimination of the NCAA Regional. They will take on Benedictine (Ill.) University tomorrow, May 13 at 1:30 p.m. CDT.
