Softball Cracks NFCA Top 10

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – For the first time this season, the Trine University softball team broke into the top 10 of this week's edition of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III Top 25 poll. The Thunder were ranked ninth in this week's edition of the poll, the NFCA announced today.

The team picked up another 32 points this week to move up two spots in the poll. The top spot in the poll changed for the first time in three weeks, when familiar face Virginia Wesleyan reclaimed the spot from Christopher Newport, which dropped to third.

The Thunder have picked up five more wins since the release of last week's poll. Following a split with Saint Mary's on Wednesday the team rattled off four wins on the weekend with sweeps of Olivet College and Manchester University.

Trine currently sits in a tie for first in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) standings with a 5-1 record. Calvin shares the top spot.

The team's offense continues to lead the way as Trine is currently ranked in the top 10 nationally in both home runs per game (1.09) and team slugging percentage (.564). The Thunder have also found success in the circle as their staff currently sits seventh in the nation with a 1.44 ERA.

Trine will travel to face Kalamazoo College this afternoon in another MIAA doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
