NFCA Ranks Softball 20th

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Trine University softball team will enter the 2022 NCAA Division III Softball Championship tournament ranked 20th in the nation following the reveal of the 11th edition of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Top 25 Coaches Poll.

The Thunder notched 60 points to move up to 20 in the poll. Christopher Newport tops the poll for the eighth straight week. Texas Lutheran and Eastern Connecticut State moved into second and third respectively.

Trine University returned to the poll last week after a seven-week absence. The team began the season ranked 16th before dropping to 25th in the second week and out of the poll in the third. They were ranked 23rd last week.

The Thunder are riding a 12-game winning streak dating back to April 19. Nine of those games came to finish out the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) regular season and secure their 11th championship. They then won three-straight to secure the MIAA tournament championship earning automatic qualification to the NCAA Division III tournament.

Trine will host the Angola, Ind. Regional beginning this Friday, May 13. They open the tournament with a contest against Wisconsin-Eau Claire at 4:30 p.m.
