Pair Named to NFCA All-Region Teams

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) has announce the 2022 edition of their NFCA Division III All-Region teams and a pair of Trine University softball student-athletes count themselves among the 384 chosen honorees.

Sophomore Adrienne Rosey (Schoolcraft, Mich. / Schoolcraft) was named a first team selection in Region VII, while junior Ellie Trine (Kokomo, Ind. / Kokomo) secured a spot on the second team. The pair continue to rack up the awards having been named MIAA Pitcher and Player of the Year respectively as well as earning spots on the Angola, Ind. Regional All-Tournament team this past weekend.

Rosey solidified herself as the team's ace throughout the year, after serving in the role of first reliever a year ago. She was a dominant presence in the circle throughout the season and has continued her performance in the postseason. Rosey currently boasts a 1.07 ERA while averaging 8.89 strikeouts per game. She was named the Angola, Ind. Regional Most Outstanding Player after earning a pair of wins in ten innings of work during the tournament. She would strike out 17 batters during those ten innings.

She became just the third Trine pitcher to record multiple no-hitters in a single season. The first coming against St. Mary's missed out on a perfect game by just one walk, while she would record all 15 outs of the five-inning game on strikeouts. The second came during a crucial sweep of Alma College.

Ellie Trine has started every game in centerfield for the Thunder and continues to have a banner season while doing so. She leads the team in multiple offensive categories including batting average (.412), on-base percentage (.500) and hits (54). She is also one of the more dangerous baserunners for the team. This past weekend she helped secure a spot in the regional championship game by forcing a rundown between first and second, allowing a runner on third to score. The run extended the lead in the game helping the team win 8-4 over North Central College.

Both student-athletes will move forward to be considered for selection for the three NFCA Division III All-American squads which will be announced on May 24.

The Thunder will begin competition in the Angola, Ind. Super Regional this Friday, May 20 at 2 p.m. when they face off with Case Western Reserve University.
