Foster Joins Softball as Assistant Coach

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University softball team and head coach Don Danklefsen have announced the hiring of assistant coach Sydnie Foster heading into the 2022-23 academic year.

"I am truly excited to finally have Syd become a member of the TUSB family, having recruited and gotten to know her out of high school," said Danklefsen, "She was a part of a great program at University of Indianapolis where she earned every award she received with excellent play on the field. Syd has always played the game the right way, leaving everything on the field, and was one of the most competitive players I have been around. She will be a perfect fit for Trine softball."

During Foster's five years as a Greyhound, the team reached four NCAA Division II Softball Championship tournaments, including one super-regional appearance, only missing out when the season was halted early due to the outbreak of Covid-19.

While there she racked up multiple awards for both her work on the field and in the classroom. She was named All-Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) three times twice on second team and once on third team. She was named Academic All-GLVC all five years at the school and was named National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Scholar Athlete three times.

Foster joins a staff that led the Thunder on the most successful campaign in program history. The team finished the 2022 season winning 20 of their final 22 games to post a 35-13 overall record. They marched their way through both the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) and NCAA Division III postseasons making their first appearance in the championship series and finishing the year as national runner-up. It is the 12th time the program has surpassed the 30-win mark since joining the NCAA in 2005, their fourth super-regional championship, fifth regional championship and 11th MIAA Championship.
