Hill Named National Player of the Week

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Freshman Debbie Hill has been named this week's Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player of the Week.

It is the first time since the 2015 season that a member of the team has taken home the national, weekly award. Hill joins just two other members in program history to earn either NFCA pitcher or player of the week honors.

Hill, a native of New Whiteland, Indiana, aided the Thunder in four victories on the week where the offense averaged over 12 runs per game. All four games concluded in five innings after reaching the run-rule against Anderson University and Spalding University. Trine won 21-1 and 11-3 at Anderson on Wednesday afternoon and followed that up with a Thursday doubleheader sweep of Spalding 9-0 and 8-0.

The left-handed swinging Hill tallied multiple hits in all four games and batted 8-for-12 (.667 batting average) for the week. Consistency was key for Hill as she scored, drove in at least one run and had at least one extra base hit in all four contests. Dating back to last week, Hill is riding a five-game hitting streak. In total, Hill had five runs scored, seven RBIs, three doubles, four homeruns, two walks, an on-base percentage of .714 and an incredible slugging percentage of 1.917.

The week is an extension of the impressive season the freshman has been having thus far. She currently ranks top-ten nationally in multiple categories including home runs (7), home runs per game (0.39), doubles per game (0.39) and slugging percentage (1.000).

The team will return to the diamond on Thursday, April 6 when they host Muskingum University for a doubleheader. First pitch at SportONE/Parkview Softball Field is set for 3 p.m.
