Thunder Sweep Anderson

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University softball team posted another pair of lopsided wins as they swept visiting Anderson (Ind.) University in their home opening doubleheader.

The team posted 23 total runs in the pair of contests, while allowing none, winning both games in run-rule fashion after five innings. They extend their win streak to 16 straight games with the wins.

The Thunder opened the game with the most lopsided inning of the season, posting 11 runs in the bottom of the first inning. Tyra Marcum opened the scoring with a grand slam over the new center field wall at SportONE/Parkview Field. She would also finish the scoring for the inning with a single in her second at-bat. Emma Beyer and Macy Rocha each recorded two RBIs in the inning while Scarlett Elliott and Debbie Hill each had one.

The team scored three more in the bottom of the second inning to build their 14-0 final lead. Ellie Trine, Karley Trine and Beyer each brought in runs on hits in the effort.

Alexis Michon allowed just two hits during her time in the circle for the team. She got the start and ended up striking out six in her four innings of work. Alex Rodriguez finished the game with one inning that included a walk but also two strikeouts.

The Thunder bats cooled for the second game, with the team only winning 9-0. Marcum got the team on the board in the bottom of the first inning with another RBI single, but it was the lone run of the first three innings of play.

The team found its groove again in the third, plating four runs to build the lead to 5-0. Emma Lee opened with two RBIs off a double to left center field. Elliott followed up a few batters later with a sacrifice bunt that scored Lee from third. The final run scored on a wild pitch later in the inning.

Trine put the game in run-rule territory in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring four more runs. This time Beyer brought in a pair on a single up the middle. Lee walked in a run and Elliott singled to left field to finish the scoring.

Lauren Clausen pitched all five innings for the Thunder to earn her seventh win of the season. She allowed just one hit and one walk in the contest while striking out six.

Trine improves to 20-1 following the sweep. They will continue their season on Saturday, March 30 when they host Hiram College for a doubleheader.
