Eight Named to All-MIAA Softball Teams

HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) has announced their 2024 end of year honors with the Trine University softball team heavily represented on both first and second team.

Eight members of the 2024 MIAA Champion Thunder were tabbed as All-MIAA selections, the most of any of the conference teams. Trine tied for most members on the first team with four and had the most on the second team outright.

Sophomore Debbie Hill started off the list, making her second consecutive appearance on the first team. The New Whiteland, Indiana native made her presence felt both in the batters' box and the pitchers' circle. Offensively she led the conference with 21 RBIs, seven homers and a 1.040 slugging percentage. She was second with seven doubles and fourth in on-base percentage (.500), batting average (.440) and hits (22). On the rubber she was second with six wins, third in strikeouts per game 8.18 and fourth with 44 strikeouts.

Freshman Tyra Marcum debuted as a first team selection after distinguishing herself as one of the best hitters in the MIAA. The Goshen, Indiana native was second in the conference with 20 RBIs and four home runs. She also finished sixth with 20 hits, seventh in slugging percentage (.745), ninth in batting average (.408) and tenth in on-base percentage (.473).

Senior Alexis Michon earned a spot on the first team for the first time in her stay at Trine, after appearing as a second team selection last season. Once again the native of Montville, Connecticut was dominating in the circle. Among the MIAA starters, she finished first with seven wins, a 1.33 ERA, a 0.62 WHIP and 10.67 strikeouts per game. She also finished second with 64 strikeouts.

The final member of the team selected to first team was sophomore Karley Trine who made her first appearance to the list this season. The Kokomo, Indiana native finished the regular season second in batting average (.486) as well as sixth in slugging percentage (.784), seventh in on-base percentage (.487), ninth in home runs (2) and tenth with 18 hits.

Junior Emma Beyer debut as the first member of the second team. The native of Rochester, Michigan had a stellar first season as a shortstop. She finished second in the league in triples and third with 16 runs. She also came in at ninth in stolen bases (7), tenth with 18 hits and 12th with a .400 batting average and a .471 on-base percentage.

Senior Scarlett Elliott made her second appearance on the second team, after a two-year absence. The four-year starter at third base had a banner season for her final campaign, finishing second in on-base percentage (.565) and third in runs. The Utica, Ohio native also came in fourth in home runs as well as fifth in doubles (5) and slugging percentage (.824). She was eighth with a .412 batting average.

After transferring to Trine for her sophomore season, Macy Rocha immediately made an impact as the everyday second baseman, especially in the batters' box. The Elkhorn, Wisconsin native finished fifth with 21 hits and five doubles while recording the seventh most RBIs (14) and triples. She was also ninth in homers, tenth with a .654 slugging percentage and 11th with a .404 batting average.

The final member of the Thunder to earn a spot on All-MIAA second team was fifth-year senior Ellie Trine, returning for her fourth appearance on the list. Playing in left field, the Kokomo, Indiana native turned in a perfect fielding percentage to tie for first in the conference. Offensively she was third with 16 runs, fourth with a .500 on-base percentage, fifth with five dobules. She was also seventh in triples and batting average (.415) and ninth with 13 RBIs, seven walks and a .659 slugging percentage.

The team is schedule to host Adrian College for the opening game of the 2024 MIAA Softball Tournament on Thursday, May 9. That game is scheduled for 11 a.m.
