THUNDER BASKETBALL TEAMS TO HOST COMMUNITY DAY

ANGOLA, IND.-- Trine University’s basketball programs welcome the community to attend “Hoop-la Community Day,” set for Saturday, Feb. 1 at Hershey Hall on the campus of Trine University.

Community Day events will be centered around a basketball doubleheader featuring the Thunder men hosting Hope at 1 p.m., followed by the Thunder women hosting St. Mary’s at 3 p.m. Admission to both games is free for all fans. Free t-shirts will be available to the first 300 adults and 100 youth in attendance, with special events and giveaways continuing throughout both games. Doors for the event open at 11:00 a.m.

The basketball teams will host “Hornet Day” as part of the Community Day festivities. The teams will welcome and recognize the Angola middle and high school teams, as well as the Junior Hornets (grades 1-6). These teams will be recognized at halftime of the men’s game. The Angola Middle School eighth-grade girls basketball team will be recognized at halftime of the women’s game.

Halftime entertainment will feature a game of dodgeball between campus Greek organizations. If time permits, a three-point shooting contest will take place.

Between games, free hot dogs will be served for 200 guests. Hot dogs will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The women’s basketball team will hold its Senior Day festivities prior to taking on St. Mary’s in the second game of the doubleheader. The team will honor seniors Megan Engle, Lauren Tait and Liz Hartley for accomplishments during their Trine careers.

After the conclusion of the women’s game, fans will have the chance to win $100 if they can be the first guest to sink a half-court shot. The first fan to knock down the half-court heave will win the prize.

Additional giveaways throughout the afternoon will include Thunder sleeves and gift cards to The Depot, courtesy of Bon Appetit.
