Trine Drops Road Contest at Adrian

ADRIAN, MICH.-- A strong close to the first half and quick start to the second gave Adrian all the seperation they would need as they defeated Trine's women's basketball team 79-65 Wednesday night at Merrilat Gymnasium.

The Bulldogs outscored Trine 19-5 over the final 2:44 of the first half and opening 3:58 of the second to turn a four-point lead into an 18-point advantage. LaQwana Dockery led Adrian with 13 points and hit 3-of-3 from beyond the arc. Laura Rosekrans (Williamston, Mich./Williamston) led the Thunder in scoring for the second-consecutive game, notching 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting. She hit 3-of-5 of her attempts from long range. Trine falls to 5-17 overall and 2-11 in conference play. Adrian improves to 11-10 overall and 7-6 in the MIAA.

Kelsey Henselmeier (Martinsville, Ind./Martinsville) filled the stat sheet with 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists for Trine. Kayla Dunn (Columbia City, Ind./Columbia City) added 13 points. The Thunder shot 34 percent (21-of-61).

Casey Fougerousse scored 11 points and added six assists for Adrian. Lauren Rhoads added 12 points, while Traevie Shelton notched 10 points and eight rebounds. Amber McCullough (11 points) and Marissa Cotton (10 points also reached double-figures for the Bulldogs. Adrian shot 36 percent (26-of-73).

Adrian blew open a four-point game with a 9-2 run to close the first half. Four different Bulldogs scored during the run to push the score to 35-24 at the half.

That momentum would carry over to the second half as Adrian opened on a 10-3 run to make the score 45-27 with 16:02 to play. Dockery knocked down a pair of treys to highlight the run. Adrian would go on to lead by as much as 20.

A 15-2 run by the Thunder pulled Trine back within seven. A three by Rosekrans capped the run to close the score to 52-45 with 10:41 remaining, but that was as close as the Thunder would get the rest of the way.

Trine returns to action Saturday when they travel to no. 2 Hope. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
