Dawson Named MIAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week

FREELAND, Mich.—Trine's Brandi Dawson has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Women's Basketball Player of the Week the conference announced Monday.

Dawson (Garrett, Ind./Garrett) averaged 26 points per game last week as the Thunder took on No. 7 Hope and Olivet. The sophomore shot 67 percent from the field and 71 percent from the free throw line. Dawson averaged five rebounds per game and added five steals and four blocked shots.

In the Thunders' faceoff against nationally ranked Hope, Dawson led the team with a career-high 33 points. Dawson went 12 for 17 to shoot 71 percent from the field. Her 33 points was the fourth most points in a game in team history by a Trine player. She knocked down her first 10 shots from the field. Against MIAA foe Olivet, Dawson scored 19 points in 20 minutes with four steals and three blocked shots.

Dawson is third in the MIAA in points per game at 16.2. She is also second in field goal percentage at 53.0. In conference play, Dawson is second in the league with 15.6 points per game.

No. 24 Trine is 15-2 overall this season and 8-1 against the MIAA.

The Thunder returns to Hershey Hall on Wednesday when it will welcome Saint Mary's for a 6 p.m. tipoff.
