Martin Named to D3Hoops.com Team of the Week

MINNEAPOLIS—Trine's Hayley Martin has been named to the D3Hoops.com Team of the Week, the organization announced Tuesday.

Martin (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb) was awarded the honor after helping lead the No. 18 ranked Thunder to its first MIAA title in program history. Trine defeated No. 8 Hope, 70-53.

The Team of the Week presented by Scoutware is D3hoops.com's weekly honor roll, in its 20th season of recognizing the top performance at each of the five positions from the previous week.

Martin averaged 20.5 points per game last week and shot 65.2 percent from the field. She was perfect from the free-throw line. The junior averaged 4.5 blocks per game and totaled nine blocks on the week. Martin broke the school record with 58 blocks this season.

Against No. 8 ranked Hope, Martin led the Thunder with 22 points in 24 minutes and opened scoring with a three pointer with less than a minute off the clock. With the Flying Dutch fighting to make a comeback in the fourth quarter, Martin shut them down totaling nine points. Martin was also a defensive powerhouse in the game adding eight rebounds, five blocks and two steals.

The Thunder will welcome the MIAA Tournament to Hershey Hall this weekend and holds the No. 1 seed in the conference. Trine will take on fourth-seeded Albion on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. The second seed, Hope, will face the third seed, Calvin, in the first semifinals game at 5:30 p.m.
