Dawson Earns MIAA Player of the Week Honors

ANGOLA, IND.  --  Trine University's junior women's basketball player Brandi Dawson (Garrett, Ind./Garrett) has been selected this week's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association "Player of the Week."

Dawson scored 28 points in the Thunder's only game this past week with a 71-46 win against Heidelberg University.  Dawson connected on 11-of-14 field goal attempts (78.6 percent) and went six-of-seven (85.7 percent) at the free-throw line.  It was her second game this season with 25 or more points and has now scored in double figures in all but one game.

In addition, she added five rebounds, one assist, and one blocked shot.

Dawson has scored 894 career points and needs 106 more points to become the 13th player in Trine women's basketball history to score 1,000.  So far this season, she has been averaging a team-best 16.1 points per game and shooting an impressive 66.3 percent (65-of-98) from the field.  Dawson is also the team's leading rebounder at 5.7 boards per game.

Trine will travel to Las Vegas, Nev. to take part in the two-day D3hoops.com Classic and will face some tough competition that will include a matchup against No. 3 nationally-ranked, and defending NCAA Division III national champion, Amherst (Mass.) College.  The Thunder will tip-off their stay out west on Thursday, Dec. 28 with a matchup against University of Wisconsin-Stout.  The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. (EST).
