ANGOLA, IND.  --  Junior Trine University women's basketball player Brandi Dawson (Garrett, Ind./Garrett) has been named this week's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association "Player of the Week" in acknowledgement of her individual efforts on the court.

Dawson was tabbed "Player of the Week" for the second team this season and played a pivotal role in helping the Thunder post a pair of victories this past week that included an upset of No. 2 nationally-ranked, and undefeated, Hope (Mich.) College.

She began the week by scoring 21 points to lead Trine to a 49-46 win against Calvin (Mich.) College and then tallied 25 points against Hope to aid the Thunder in the sweep.  Also in the game against Hope, Dawson became a part of an elite group as the 13th member in Trine women's basketball history to score 1,000 points in her career (1,023).

For the week, Dawson averaged 23.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game, while shooting .667 percent (20-of-30) from the floor.

Overall, Dawson leads the team in scoring at 14.5 ppg. and is shooting 59.8 percent (119-of-199) from the field.  She leads the team in total number of rebounds (129) and is second in rebounds per game (6.5).  Dawson is also amongst the team leaders in blocked shots (2nd - 12), steals (3rd - 18) and assists (4th - 22).

Trine will conclude its mini road trip on Wednesday, Jan. 31 when the Thunder travel to Olivet, Mich. for a MIAA contest against Olivet College.  The game is slated to start at 7:30 p.m.
