Dawson Named MIAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week

FREELAND, MICH.  --  Trine University women's basketball player Brandi Dawson (Garrett, Ind./Garrett) has been named this week's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Women's Basketball "Player of the Week."

Dawson averaged 15.0 points per game this past week as the Thunder posted a pair of victories against No. 5 nationally-ranked Hope (Mich.) College and Olivet (Mich.) College.  Dawson shot 59.1 percent (13-of-22) from the floor and averaged 5.5 rebounds per game.  She also had three assists, one blocked shot and a steal.

In the win against Hope, Dawson scored 21 points on 64.3 percent (nine-of-14) shooting to go along with five rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal.  Her 21-point total against the Flying Dutch marked the sixth game of the season that she scored 20 or more points.

For the season, Dawson averages a team-best, and ranks in a tie for second in the MIAA, 16.9 ppg. on 54.9 percent shooting (89-of-162).  She also leads the team in rebounding at 6.1 rpg. and has added 20 assists, six blocks and 10 steals.

Trine will host Adrian (Mich.) College on Wednesday, Jan. 9 in a MIAA game at the MTI Center.  Tip-off between the two teams is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
