Herbert Named MIAA Player of the Week

ANGOLA, IND.  --  Trine University women's basketball player Shay Herbert (Pinckney, Mich./Pinckney) has been named this week's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association "Player of the Week."

Herbert helped lead the Thunder to a 2-0 record this past week with wins against Adrian (54-39) and Kalamazoo (66-39) to increase Trine's current win streak to six games.  Trine has also captured 12 of its last 14 games.

Herbert recorded back-to-back double-doubles, her first of her career, with 11 points and 10 rebounds against Adrian which she followed with a 13-point and a career-high 11-rebound effort against Kalamazoo.  She finished the week with a 12.0 points per game average while shooting 52.9 percent (nine-of-17) from the field, including a perfect five-of-five at the free-throw line.  Herbert then averaged 10.5 boards per game to go along with three blocked shots and three steals.

For the season, Herbert has been averaging 6.1 ppg on 41.9 percent (39-of-93) shooting.  A third of her made field goals have come from three-point range (13-of-37) where she is shooting 35.1 percent.  She leads the team and ranks in a tie for ninth in the MIAA in rebounding at 6.3 rpg.  She also leads the team (seventh in the conference) in blocked shots with 22 and is second among her teammates in steals with 27.

Trine will host Calvin (Mich.) College on Wednesday, Jan. 29 at the MTI Center.  The two MIAA foes are scheduled to tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
