Bieniewicz Named MIAA Player of the Week

ANGOLA, IND.  --  Trine University sophomore women's basketball player Tara Bieniewicz (Chesterfield, Mich./Dakota) has been named this week's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association "Player of the Week."

The Thunder posted a pair of victories this past week with wins against Albion (Mich.) College and Adrian (Mich.) College to increase its current win streak to 11 games.

Bieniewicz averaged 19.0 points per game with a 17-point effort against Albion, followed by a career-high 21 points against Adrian.  She shot an impressive 70.0 percent from the field overall (14-of-20) and 54.5 percent (six-of-11) from three-point range.  In addition, she was four-of-five (80.0 percent) at the free-throw line.

Bieniewicz averaged 4.0 rebounds per game to go along with seven assists, five steals and a pair of blocked shots for the week.

Through 23 games, Bieniewicz leads the team in scoring at 11.8 ppg and is among the team leaders in shooting percentage at 44.8 percent (87-of-194).  The majority of her field goal attempts come from behind the three-point arc where she is shooting 39.2 percent with a team-high 47 made triples (47-of-120).  She also leads the team in free-throw percentage at 84.4 percent (27-of-32).

Also this season, Bieniewicz has been averaging 2.2 rpg to go along with 32 assists, 22 steals and is second in blocked shots with 14.

Trine will host its final regular-season home game on Wednesday, Feb. 19 when the Thunder host Kalamazoo (Mich.) College in a MIAA matchup.  It will be senior night with tip-off slated for 7:30 p.m.
