Trine Voted Second in Women's Basketball MIAA Preseason Poll

FREELAND, Mich. – The Trine University women's basketball team has been voted to finish second in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) in the 2021-22 season.

Hope College was chosen as the preseason favorite to win the MIAA Championship with 64 points and eight first-place votes. The Thunder were just behind with 57 points and the lone other first-place vote.

Trine and head coach Andy Rang are fresh off of a 14-3 campaign in 2020-21 and look forward to a full slate of games this season. Tara Bieniewicz [Chesterfield, Mich. / Dakota] returns as a preseason All-American selection by D3hoops.com. Bieniewicz is a two-time All-MIAA honoree and has been All-Region twice in her career.

Two-time All-MIAA guard Kayla Wildman [Rockford, Mich. / Rockford] is also back for the Thunder, along with 2021 Second Team All-MIAA forward Kelsy Taylor [Louisville, Ky. / New Albany].

Trine opens up the 2021-22 season at home in the Cameron Hospital Classic on Saturday, November 13 and Sunday, November 14. On Saturday, the Thunder take on Kenyon College at 7 pm and host Denison University on Sunday at 3 pm.
