Sectional Semifinal Rounds of NCAA Tournament to be Played at Transylvania University Next Week

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The NCAA has announced that by virtue of winning their First and Second Round games of the NCAA DIII Women's Basketball Tournament, the Trine University women's basketball team will be traveling to Transylvania University for the Sectional Rounds on Friday, March 11 and Saturday, March 12.

The Thunder ousted Immaculata University 62-37 in the First Round on Friday and defeated John Carroll University 63-42 on their home floor Saturday night to move on in the NCAA Tournament.

Trine will take on Springfield College in the Sectional Semifinals. The Pride are 24-4 and received an at-large bid after coming up short versus Babson College in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship game. In the first two rounds, Springfield took down Messiah College 73-68 in the First Round and knocked off host Ithaca College in the Second Round via a last second shot in overtime, 73-71.

In the other Sectional Semifinal matchup, Transylvania will do battle with the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Cru. The undefeated Pioneers at 26-0 won their fourth straight Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) title and beat Washington & Jefferson College (69-52) and Southern Virginia University (77-55) in the NCAA Tournament. The Cru were champions of the American Southwest Conference (ASC) to clinch a spot in the dance and defeated Webster University (79-76) and East Texas Baptist University (75-57) to move to 24-4 overall.

Trine and Springfield will kick things off in the Sectional Semifinals with a 4:30 pm tip-off on March 11. Following that game at 6:30 pm, host Transylvania and Mary Hardin-Baylor will do battle to face the winner of game one. The Sectional Championship game on Saturday, March 12 will take place at 6 pm. Tickets for each day will be $10 general admission and $7 for students and seniors.
