Trine Slotted Second in MIAA Women's Basketball Poll

HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – The Trine University women's basketball team was selected by the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) coaches to finish second in the league after sharing the regular season crown one season ago.

Hope College was the unanimous number one selection with all eight available first-place votes. The Thunder received the last remaining first-place vote and totaled 16 points. Behind Trine was Calvin University in third-place at 25 points and Albion College in fourth at 27 points.

The Thunder finished the 2021-22 year with a 28-4 overall record, a new program-high, and went 15-1 in league action. The top two teams in the MIAA split the regular season contests one season ago, with each team winning on the road. For Trine, the 70-62 win at Hope snapped the team's NCAA-high 61-game winning streak.

In MIAA games, the Thunder outscored opponents by an average margin of 29.1 points per game. They held conference opponents to 45.6 points per game, 31.5% shooting from the field overall and just 20.0% from beyond the arc.

Trine opens the regular season on Tuesday, November 8 with a home game versus Benedictine University. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. and the Thunder begin MIAA competition at Adrian College on Wednesday, November 30.
