Women's Bowling Wins First AHBA Championship

MONROE, Mich. – The Trine University women's bowling team captured its first conference championship in school history over the weekend at the American Heartland Bowling Association (AHBA) Championships. The Thunder scored the most points in the final points paying event of the 2021-22 season to claim victory for the team's first tournament victory as well.

The women broke their individual game record to claim the title, shooting 1095 for five individual scores (219 average). Leading the team was sophomore Jenna Brewer [Dearborn, Mich. / Lincoln Park] with a 267, followed by sophomore Jaden Howard [Angola, Ind. / Angola] with a 249, junior Katie Newman [Wabash, Ind. / Wabash] with 211, freshman Aubrey Weinberg [Bronson, Mich. / Bronson] with a 193, and freshman Megan Timm [Flint, Mich. / Kearsley] with 175. Brewer averaged a score of 218 in five games on Saturday to lead the charge for Trine.

In conference play, the Thunder finished no worse than sixth and placed in podium position in three of the final four AHBA events. The United States Bowling Congress (USBC) has ranked Trine 24th in the nation heading into play last week.
