Women's Bowling Wins at Lehigh Valley Collegiate Classic

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Trine Women's team competed in the Lehigh Valley Collegiate Classic on December 19 and 20, looking to defend last year's title.

Leading the team individually on Saturday was Senior Katie Newman, who placed third out of a field of over 100 bowlers. She had the high game of the tournament with a 264 and helped the Thunder shatter the program record team game with a 5-man score of 1146 (229.2 average).

Behind Newman's 264 were junior Megan Timm at 239, senior Jaden Howard at 237, freshman Rilee Cooper-Lewis with 211 and freshman Alissa VanHorn at 195. The Thunder ladies found themselves 90 pins back of the lead going into day two, but cut that to 10 pins after the first four-game block where the team averaged 211. The women shot 858 (214 average) in the final block to secure the team victory and repeat in Allentown.

The finish also moves the ladies into the top 10 for regular season United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Power Rankings going into the semester break along with a fourth-place showing at the Keystone Quaker Classic. This is the second Tier 1 title in program history, and first time either team has won the same tournament in back-to-back years. The Thunder return to action in Fort Wayne for AHBA #5 on Saturday, January 20.
