Women's Golfers Fifth at own MIAA Jamboree

ANGOLA, Ind. - At the fourth and final MIAA Jamboree before the two-round finale, the Trine University women's golf team finished fifth with a score of 344. After four rounds, Olivet leads the overall standings with 1,294 total strokes. The Thunder fell a stroke back of Hope for the fourth and final spot in the spring championship, 1,414-to-1,415.

Hosted by Trine at their own par-72 5,963 yard Zollner Golf Course, Olivet took the team honors with a 320. Carlia Canto of Calvin took the individual medalist honors with a 1-over-par73.

Sophomore Amy Worthington (Logansport, Ind./Logansport) led Trine on the day with a fifth place finish after carding a 78 for the round. It was Worthington's sixth top-5 finish of the season. Freshman Julia DeBelly (Sylvania, Ohio/Sylvania Northview) finished the round with an 84, her second lowest round of the season, to finish in a tie for 13th. Senior Jennifer Sir Louis (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) and sophomore Mikala Freeland (Danville, Ind./Danville Community) finished in a tie for 24th after shooting rounds of 91. It was the lowest round of the season for Freeland. Junior Leisha Beutler (Lafayette, Ind./Jefferson) rounded out the team scoring for the Thunder with a 93 to finish in a tie for 33rd.

Playing as individuals were a pair of freshmen in Jamie Frost (St. John, Ind./Hanover Central) and Allyson Ross (Akron, Ind./Tippecanoe Valley). Frost would finish in a tie for 42nd after shooting a 97 while Ross shot a 109 to finish 47th.

Trine will wrap up their fall season at the two-day MIAA Season-Ending Tournament hosted by Olivet College at the Bedford Valley Country Club beginning Oct. 11 at 1 p.m.
