Thunder Third After First Round of National Qualifier

SOUTH BEND, IND.-- The Trine women's golf team is in third place after the first round of the MIAA National Qualifier, held Wednesday at Blackthorne Golf Club.

Thunder golfers combined to shoot a 359 in the first round of the three-round, 54-hole tournament. The remaining two rounds will be contested in the coming weeks. Trine was paced by Julia DeBelly (Sylvania, Ohio/Sylvania Northview), who fired an 88 to finish 12th overall. Paced by Adrienne Plourde's round of 73, Olivet took the first round with a score of 325.

Amanda McPherron (Plymouth, Ind./Plymouth) came in one stroke behind DeBelly to finish in a tie for 13th. Amy Worthington (Logansport, Ind./Logansport) and Leisha Beutler (Lafayette, Ind./Jefferson) rounded out Trine's top four, tying for 15th in the standings.

The winner of the MIAA National Qualifier receives an automatic-qualifying bid to the NCAA Division III National Championships. The next round of the National Qualifier will be hosted by Olivet at Medalist Golf Club in Marshall, Mich. on Saturday, Apr. 26.

The Thunder return to action tomorrow when they compete in the Manchester Spring Invitational. The event tees off at 1:00 p.m.
