DeBelly Paces Thunder to Tournament Win

WABASH, IND.-- Individual medalist Julia DeBelly paced the Trine women's golf team to a first-place finish in the Manchester Spring Invitational Friday afternoon at Honeywell Golf Club.

DeBelly shot an eight-over 80 to win the individual championship in the event. The round was a career-low for the freshman, who recorded her first collegiate tournament victory. Her performance led the Thunder to the team championship. Trine golfers carded a score of 333 to finish 27-strokes in front of the second-place team from Franklin College. The top four golfers for each team counted towards the team score. Trine's top four golfers combined to record the lowest scores in the tournament.

Jennifer Sir Louis (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) finished second overall in the tournament with a score of 83. This is the first time this season Trine golfers have taken home the top two spots in a tournament.

Amy Worthington (Logansport, Ind./Logansport) and Amanda McPherron (Plymouth, Ind./Plymouth) rounded out Trine's top four as each golfer carded an 85 to finish tied for third. McPherron's score was four strokes better than her season average.

The Thunder will host the Trine University Spring Invitational next Wednesday, Apr. 23 at 1:00 p.m. at Zollner Golf Course.
