ANGOLA, Ind.—Freshman Julia DeBelly won her second-straight tournament on Wednesday evening to lead the Trine women's golf team to a first place finish at the Trine Spring Classic at the Zollner Golf Course. Sophomore Amy Worthington finished in a tie for second place.
DeBelly (Sylvania, Ohio / Sylvania Northview ) tallied two birdies on her way to an 11-over round of 83. The Thunder finished with a score of 351, nine shots in front of Cleary and Adrian College.
Worthington (Logansport, Ind./Logansport) finished in a tie for second place with a score of 84. The sophomore had two birdies and five pars on the day. This was the second-straight tournament that Trine golfers held the top two spots at a tournament.
Sophomore Mikala Freeland (Danville, Ind. / Danville Community) placed in a tie for ninth with a round of 89. To round out scoring for the Thunder, fellow sophomore Amanda McPherron (Plymouth, Ind./Plymouth) finished in a tie for 18th , shooting a 95. Senior Jennifer Sir Louis (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) shot a round of 96 to cap off her final home tournament of her career.
The Thunder will compete at the MIAA NCAA Tournament Qualifier in Marshall, Mich. April 26 and 28. The tournament will be hosted by Olivet at the Medalist Golf Club.
