WORTHINGTON TAKES MEDALIST HONORS AT OLIVET INVITE

MARSHALL, Mich. - In their first tournament of the season, the Trine University women's golf team finished in a tie for 11th with a two-day total of 368-346-714 at the Olivet Fall Invitational. Sophomore Amy Worthington (Logansport, Ind./Logansport) won her fifth collegiate tournament by one stroke with scores of 78-76-154.

Hosted by Olivet College at the par-72, 5,834 yard Medalist Golf Club, Bethel (IN) took the team title with a score of 328-309-637. Trine moved up from 13th place after the first round.

For Worthington, it is the second straight year she has started the season finishing atop the leaderboard. Worthington made a comeback after sitting two shots back of the leader after the first round. Finishing in the tie for 53 was freshman Julia DeBelly (Sylvania, Ohio/Sylvania Northview) with rounds of 95-88-183. Sitting in a tie for 65th was sophomore Amanda McPherron (Plymouth, Ind./Plymouth) shooting rounds of 99-88-187. Junior Leisha Beutler (Lafayette, Ind./Jefferson) carded rounds of 96-94-190 to finish 74th over the two-day event. Freshman Ryleigh Gordon (Okemos, Mich./Okemos) rounded out the team scoring for the Thunder with rounds of 101-98-199 to finish in a tie for 84th.

The Thunder will now host the Trine Kick-Off Classic on Sept. 12 beginning at noon.
