ANGOLA, IND.-- The Trine women's golf team will open this season this weekend at the Olivet College Invitational, with play set to begin this Friday at Medalist Golf Club.
The Thunder took a major step back towards the top of the MIAA last season in reaching the MIAA National Qualifier with a fourth-place finish in the fall. Trine placed third in the Qualifier to give the team their highest finish in the conference since 2010, and will look to continue that success as the team returns all but one player from last season's squad.
Headlining the returners is First-Team All-MIAA performer Amy Worthington (Logansport, Ind./Logansport). The junior won medalist honors at three events last season and has seven wins in her Trine career.
Julia DeBelly (Sylvania, Ohio/Sylvania Northview) stepped up big last season in her freshman campaign to earn Second-Team All-MIAA honors. She will look to carry momentum forward from a strong spring campaign that saw her earn medalist honors at two events.
Amanda McPherron (Plymouth, Ind./Plymouth), Leisha Beutler (Lafayette, Ind./Jefferson), Mikala Freeland (Danville, Ind./Danville Community) and Jaime Frost (St. John, Ind./Hanover Central) also return as key players on this year's squad. They will be joined by 11 freshman who will compete for playing time.
