McPherron Leads Thunder in Jamboree at St. Mary's

SOUTH BEND, IND.-- Amanda McPherron earned individual medalist honors as Trine finished third in the MIAA Jamboree at St. Mary's, held Wednesday afternoon at Blackthorn Golf Club.

McPherron (Plymouth, Ind./Plymouth) carded a 78 (6+) to finish first overall in the first MIAA Jamboree of the fall. McPherron finished even on par-3 holes, and made par on 13 holes overall. The round was seven strokes better than the junior's previous-best this season. Overall, the Thunder finished with a score of 337 (+49). Hope finished atop the team leaderboard with a score of 330 (+42). The top four teams in the tournament finished just eight strokes apart.

Amy Worthington (Logansport, Ind./Logansport) finished sixth overall with an 83. The junior was a First-Team All-MIAA performer last season. Julia DeBelly (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview) finished with an 85, and Jaime Frost (St. John, Ind./Hanover Central) carded a 91 to round out Trine's top four.

The Jamboree at St. Mary's was the first of four Jamboree events preceding the two-round MIAA Championships. The teams with four-best cumulative scores following the Championships advance to the MIAA National Qualifier in the spring, where they will compete for an automatic-qualifying bid to the NCAA Division III National Championships.

The Thunder will compete in the MIAA Jamboree at Alma this Saturday, Sept. 27 at Pine River Country Club.
