Thunder Place Fourth, Two Earn All-Conference

BATTLE CREEK, MICH.-- The Trine women's golf team placed fourth in the MIAA Championships at Albion, which concluded Saturday at Bedford Valley Golf Course. Two Thunder earned all-conference honors.

The Thunder finished with a 349 on the final day of MIAA competition of the fall to place fourth in the MIAA standings. The finish gives Trine their second-consecutive berth in the MIAA National Qualifier, which will be held in the spring. Amy Worthington (Logansport, Ind./Logansport) earned First-Team All-MIAA honors for the second-consecutive season. Sophomore Julia DeBelly (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview) earned second-team honors for the second-straight year.

Worthington becomes the first Trine golfer in the Division III era to earn First-Team All-MIAA honors twice. The junior finished with an 80 in the final round to tie for fifth. Worthington finished no worse than sixth in any MIAA round this fall. She finished with the second-best average in the conference.

DeBelly tied for 20th over the final two rounds at the MIAA Championships. She fired an 84 in the final round to finish the conference season strong. DeBelly has now earned All-MIAA honors in each of the first two seasons of her Trine career.

Jaime Frost (St. John, Ind./Hanover Central) tied for 20th with DeBelly in the MIAA Championships, finishing with an 89 in each round. Rounding out Trine's top four in the final round was Mikala Freeland (Danville, Ind./Danville Community).

The Thunder will compete in the MIAA National Qualifier in the spring. The winner of the four-team, 54-hole tournament receives an automatic-qualifying bid to the NCAA Division III National Championships.

The fall season concludes next Saturday, Oct. 18 when the Thunder host their own Fall Invitational on Fred Zollner Golf Course.
