Thunder In First Place at Capital University Invitational

GALENA, Ohio-- The Trine women's golf team is in first place after round one of the Capital University Purple and White Invitational, held Thursday on the Royal American Links.

Thunder golfers carded a score of 350, 12 strokes better than second-place Carnegia Mellon. The first round was contested in tough, rainy conditions. Amy Worthington (Logansport, Ind./Logansport) is tied for second with a 13-over 85. The junior finished even on nine holes, tied for the most among all golfers in the tournament. Worthington is two strokes behind individual leader Lexi Scala of Mount Union.

Julia DeBelly (Sylvania, Ohio/Sylvania Northview) finished one stroke behind Worthington to tie for fifth. The sophomore also finished even on nine holes. Amanda McPherron (Plymouth, Ind./Plymouth) also finished with an 86, carding an even-par score on seven holes. Worthington, DeBelly and McPherron gave Trine three of the top six performers in the first round.

Mikala Freeland (Danville, Ind./Danville Community) rounded out the top four Thunder golfers who earned scores credited towards the overall team score. Freeland tied for 14th overall. Freeland's score was in line with her season-average.
