ANGOLA, Ind.-- The Trine women's golf team placed third in the Trine University Spring Classic, held Friday and Saturday on the links of Zollner Golf Course.
The Thunder moved up one spot after finishing round one in fourth, accumulating a two-round score of 678. Trine golfers saw a 16-stroke improvement from their round on scores on day two of the tournament. Three Thunder golfers placed in the top 10, led by Julia DeBelly's (Sylvana, Ohio/Northview) fourth-place finish. DeBelly finished with a 159 overall. The sophomore's two-day average score was seven-strokes better than her season average entering the event.

Amy Worthington (Logansport, Ind./Logansport) came on strong in round two to finish sixth overall. The junior finished with a seven-over 79 on day two to move up from a tie for 15th. Katherine Guertin (Worthington, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) moved up into a tie for ninth by improving on her round one score by seven strokes with an 81 today. Both of Guertin's scores were better than her previous season average.
Amanda McPherron (Plymouth, Ind./Plymouth) rounded out the top four for the Thunder, improving on her day one score by four strokes in round two. Mikala Freeland (Danville, Ind./Danville Community) rounded out the top Trine group, improving by three strokes on day two.
Hope won the team title with a score of 656. The Dutch were led by individual medalist Britni Gielow, who finished with a score of 156.
Trine will compete in the first round of the MIAA National Qualifier this Tuesday, April 14 at Medalist Golf Club in Marshall, Mich. The winner of the three-round tournament spread throughout the spring earns an automatic-qualifying bid to the NCAA Division III National Championships.
