Thunder Place Third in National Qualifier

SAUGATUCK, Mich.-- The Trine women's golf team placed third in the final round of the MIAA National Qualifier to place third in the tournament, which concluded Saturday at Ravines Golf Club.

Thunder golfers finished with a score of 342 on the final day to finish with a three-round total of 1040. Trine placed third in each round of the tournament. Julia DeBelly (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview) fired a six-over 78 in today's final round to finish in a tie for third overall. The sophomore carded the best score for the Thunder in each of the final two rounds. DeBelly's score in the final round was a season-low. Hope won the automatic-qualifying bid to the NCAA Division III National Championships with a three-round score of 973.

Amy Worthington (Logansport, Ind./Logansport) finished with an 80 in today's round to place sixth. The junior was one of Trine's top two golfers in every round of MIAA play this year, including the fall.

Mikala Freeland (Danville, Ind./Danville Community) placed third among Trine golfers in the final round with a 90. Amanda McPherron (Plymouth, Ind./Plymouth) and Katherine Guertin (Worthington, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) rounded out Thunder golfers competing in the event.

The tournament wraps up the 2014-15 season for Trine. The Thunder placed third in the MIAA in the fall, led by First Team All-MIAA honoree Worthington and Second Team performer DeBelly.
