ANGOLA, Ind.-- The Trine women's golf team started the season with a bang, winning the team's own Trine University Kick-Off Classic held on the links of Zollner Golf Course.
The Thunder shot a 336 (+48) to finish 12 strokes in front of runner-up Olivet. Trine's Julia DeBelly (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview) finished second overall, shooting an eight-over 80. DeBelly carded the best score of all golfers on par-fours, notched a pair of birdies and finished even on nine holes. The Thunder have won two if its last three tournament at Zollner Golf Course. Olivet's Casey Lamp won individual medalist honors with a 79.

Jaime Frost (St. John, Ind./Hanover Central) and Amy Worthington (Logansport, Ind./Logansport) tied for fifth overall and second among Trine golfers as each carded an 85. Frost's performance was highlighted by a pair of birdies.
Mikala Freeland (Danville, Ind./Danville Community) started her senior season off in strong fashion, finishing one-stroke off her career-low round with an 86. Freeland's score was good enough to tie for eighth overall.
Ryleigh Gordon (Okemos, Mich./Okemos) rounded out Trine's top group. A second group of Trine golfers, led by Claire Barnett (North Manchester, Ind./Manchester) and Alison Brimmer (Angola, Ind./Angola) placed 11th overall.
Trine returns to the links next Friday and Saturday, Sept. 4-5 at Carthage College's "Tournament On the Border."
