Thunder Place Third in first MIAA Round

MARSHALL, Mich.-- The Trine women's golf team placed third in the MIAA Jamboree at Olivet, held Wednesday at Medalist Golf Club.

The Thunder carded a score of 345 in the first conference round of the fall. Amy Worthington (Logansport, Ind./Logansport) shot a six-over 78 to tie for first with Hope College's Megan Klintworth. Worthington carded one birdie and finished even on 10 other holes. This the third time the senior has finished first in an MIAA Jamboree in her collegiate career. Hope sits atop the team leaderboard with a 317. Trine is just five strokes behind Olivet for second-place.

Mikala Freeland (Danville, Ind./Danville Community) fired a career-best 85 to finish second among Thunder golfers and in a tie for 14th overall. Freeland also birdied one hole.

Julia DeBelly (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview) and Claire Barnett (North Manchester, Ind./Manchester) each finished with 91s to round out Trine's top four scorers. Jaime Frost (St. John, Ind./Hanover Central) placed fifth on Trine's team of golfers.

Ryleigh Gordon (Okemos, Mich./Okemos) competed as an individual and matched Freeland's score of 85. The performance was also a career-best for Gordon. Brooke Johnson (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) also compted as an individual.

Trine continues conference play this Saturday with the Jamboree at Kalamazoo. The round will be contested at Milham Park Golf Club.
