BATTLE CREEK, Mich.-- The Trine women's golf team finished fourth in the first round of the MIAA Championship, held Friday at Bedford Valley Golf Course.
The Thunder carded a team score of 330 to finish +42 on the day. The performance kept Trine in fourth place in the conference standings. The Thunder appear to have locked up a top-four finish for the third-straight year as they lead fifth-place Calvin by 89 strokes entering the final round of play tomorrow. Trine trails third-place Saint Mary's by 21 strokes.

Amy Worthington (Logansport, Ind./Logansport) led the Thunder with a seven-over 79 to tie for third today. The senior is in a four-way tie for fourth in the individual standings. She could become the first Trine women's golfer ever to earn All-MIAA First Team honors three times with a strong finish tomorrow.
Julia DeBelly (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview) tied for 12th overall with an 83. DeBelly is also in the hunt for all-conference honors, sitting in 11th place in the conference.
Mikala Freeland (Danville, Ind./Danville Community) and Ryleigh Gordon (Okemos, Mich./Okemos) rounded out the top four for the Thunder with 84s. Freeland's score was a career-best.
Claire Barnett (North Manchester, Ind./Manchester) rounded out Trine's team performers with a top-20 finish. Brooke Johnson (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) and Natalie Woodley (Grayling, Mich./Grayling) each competed as individuals.
The MIAA Championship concludes tomorrow at Bedford Valley Golf Course. The complete MIAA standings are listed below.
