MARSHALL, Mich.-- The Trine women's golf team is in fourth place after the first round of the MIAA National Qualifier, contested Tuesday at Medalist Golf Club.
Thunder golfers combined to card a score of 345 in the first of three qualifier rounds. Ryleigh Gordon (Okemos, Mich. / Okemos) saw her strong performance from the weekend carry over into today's round as she fired a team-low 84. Gordon was the lone Trine golfer to notch a birdie on the day. The sophomore tied for seventh in round one. Trine trails first-place Hope by 19 strokes.

Claire Barnett (North Manchester, Ind. / Manchester) carded an 86 to finish second among Thunder golfers and 14th overall. Barnett's score was her best of the spring season.
Julia DeBelly (Sylvania, Ohio / Northview) and Jaime Frost (Saint John, Ind. / Hanover Central) rounded out Trine's top four. DeBelly finished with an 87, while Frost finished one stroke behind with an 88.
The winner of the three-round, 54-hole MIAA National Qualifier receives an automatic-qualifying bid to the NCAA Division III National Championships. Qualifier play continues Friday, Apr. 29 at Ravines Golf Club in Saugatuck, Mich.
