Frost Leads Thunder to Second Place in Kick-Off Classic

ANGOLA, Ind. -- Jaime Frost notched a new career-best score to lead the Trine women's golf team to second place in the Trine University Kick-Off Classic, hosted on the links of Zollner Golf Course.

Frost (St. John, Ind. / Hanover Central) fired a 77 to tie for second individually. The senior birdied four holes on her way to beating her previous career-best score by three strokes. Frost finished two-under on Par 5 holes to lead all golfers in the tournament in that category. She finished one stroke behind individual medalist Madison Smith of Cleary University.

Led by Frost, the Thunder finished with an overall score of 338. Cleary University took home the team title with a score of 336 (+48).

Julia DeBelly (Sylvania, Ohio / Northview) tied for eighth and finished second among Trine golfers with an 85 (+13). The senior finished with an even par on seven holes. Claire Barnett (North Manchester, Ind. / Manchester) finished one stroke behind with an 86. The sophomore carded even-par scores on six holes and notched two birdies.

Rounding out Trine's top four was Ryleigh Gordon (Okemos, Mich. / Okemos) with a 90. Brooke Johnson finished one stroke back with a 91, finishing even on six holes.

Amanda Pucher (Holly, Mich. / Holly) led an additional team of Thunder golfers with a 90. That score beat the sophomore's previous career-best by five strokes. Natalie Woodley (Grayling, Mich. / Grayling) matched her career-best with a 92, while Lyndsey Welper (Lake Orion, Mich. / Lake Orion) led Trine's freshman group with a 95 in her first collegiate round.

The Thunder return to the links Friday, Sep. 2 when they play the first of two rounds at Carthage College's Shootout on the Border. The event will be hosted by Bristol Oaks Golf Club in Bristol, Wis.
