Women's Golf Places 13th at Niepagen Invitational

NORMAL, Ill.—The Trine women's golf team tied for 13th at the Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling on Saturday at the Ironwood Golf Course.

The Thunder combined to shoot 327 on their first round and followed with 342 on the second round.

After being rained out after 15 holes on Friday, Trine completed the three holes of round one Saturday morning before golfing 18 holes for round two.

Indiana Tech won the team race shooting 33 over par for the weekend. Washington U-St. Louis took second shooting 47 over.

Julia DeBelly (Sylvania, Ohio/Sylvania Northview) turned in the top score for the Thunder shooting 12 over to tie for 12th place.

Wiebke Schlender of Indiana Tech was the individual medalist and the only golfer to shoot under par for the two rounds combining to go two under.

DeBelly shot 76 in her first round and followed with a score of 80 for round two. Amanda McPherron (Plymouth, Ind./Plymouth) tied for 59th shooting 169, while Brooke Johnson (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) tied for 62nd one shot behind her at 170. Jordan Stevens (Brownstown, Ind./Brownstown Central) tied for 90th shooting 179, and Natalie Woodley (Grayling, Mich./Grayling) tied for 95th shooting 181.

The Thunder returns to action on April 20 when they will play at the Adrian Spring Invitational. Teams tee off at 1 p.m.
