Johnson's Eighth-Place Finish Leads Team in Kick-Off Event

ANGOLA, IND. – Trine women's golf finished fifth at their own Kick-Off Classic to begin the fall season on Friday, played at Zollner Golf Course. The team's final tally of 364 was only seven strokes out of second place.

Senior Brooke Johnson (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) led the team with an overall score of 88 strokes to place eighth amongst the field individually. Fellow senior Natalie Woodley (Grayling, Mich./Grayling) finished second on the team with an 18-hole total of 90, which was good enough to tie for 13th individually for the tournament. Sophomore Lyndsey Welper (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion) shot a 91 and senior Jordan Stevens (Brownstown/Brownstown Central) shot a 95 to round out the scorecard for the Thunder.

Olivet (Mich.) College won the overall event with a team score of 333 strokes. Capital (Ohio) University was second at 357 strokes and Albion (Mich.) College finished third with 359 strokes.

Trine will next take the links on Friday, September 1 for the first day of the Carthage (Wis.) College Shootout on the Border in Bristol, Wis. which is set to tee off 1:30 p.m.
