Trine Women's Golf Completes First Round of IWU Invite

MARION, IND.  --  The Trine University women's golf team completed the first day of competition of the Indiana Wesleyan University at Arbor Trace Golf Club in Marion, Ind.

The Thunder finished with a opening round team score of 349 strokes and are ninth amongst team qualifying scores.  Taylor University leads with a team score of 314 strokes.  Host school Indiana Wesleyan and the University of St. Francis (Ind.) are tied for second with 315 strokes each to round out the top three schools.

Junior Lyndsey Welper (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion) shot the lowest score of the day for Trine individually on the par 72, 5,835-yard course layout of 83 strokes and is tied for 23rd overall.  Sophomore Olivia Phillips (Muncie, Ind./Muncie) was second on the team at 86 strokes and freshman Jenna Doumont (Burlington, Ky./Villa Madonna Academy) was third at 88 strokes.  

Junior Makenna Kelly (Angola, Ind./Angola) turned in an opening round score of 92 strokes and freshman Becca Baughman (Lake Orion, Mich./Lutheran Northwest) completed the team eligible individual scoring with 94 strokes.

In addition, freshman Karlee Fackler (Fort Wayne, Ind./Heritage) competed as an individual and completed the round with a score of 96 strokes.

Trine will complete the two-day invitational with the final round tomorrow (Saturday, Sept. 1) at 9 a.m. at Arbor Trace Golf Club.
