Kelly Leads Women's Golf at Olivet Campbell Invitational

MARSHALL, MICH. -- Junior Mackenna Kelly (Angola, Ind./Angola) shot the lowest individual score to help lead the Trine University women's golf team to a tie for eighth place at the Kyle Campbell Invitational hosted by Olivet (Mich.) College at The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall, Mich.

As a team, the Thunder finished with a final round team score of 355 strokes for a two-day total of 709 strokes (354+355=709) and placed in a tie for eighth overall out of 14 teams.  DePauw University won the tournament with a team total of 607 strokes (311+296=607).  Bethel (Ind.) College was second at 652 strokes (316+336=652) and Carthage (Wis.) College was third at 661 strokes (322+339=661).

After firing a round of 86 strokes on day one, Kelly concluded the tournament with a score of 88 strokes to end the tournament with an overall score of 174 strokes and finished in a tie for 28th place overall.  Fellow junior Lyndsey Welper (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion) improved her first round score by a stroke and posted a two-day score of 175 strokes (88+87=175).  Freshman Jenna Doumont (Burlington, Ky./Villa Madonna Academy) posted the third-lowest score for the Thunder at 177 strokes (88+89=177) and fellow freshman Becca Baughman (Lake Orion, Mich./Lutheran Northwest) was fourth with a tournament total of 183 strokes (92+91=183).

Sophomore Olivia Phillips (Muncie, Ind./Muncie) rounded out the Trine competitors with rounds of 103 and 92 strokes to end the event with an overall score of 195 strokes (103+92=195).

Trine will next compete in the first Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association event of the season with the one-day MIAA Jamboree #1 hosted by Albion (Mich.) College.  The 18-hole round will also be held at The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall, Mich. beginning at 1 p.m.
