Women's Golf Competes at MIAA Jamboree #3

SAUGATUCK, MICH.  --  The Trine University women's golf team traveled north to The Ravines Golf Course in Saugatuck, Mich. to compete in the third Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Jamboree event of the season and placed seventh overall.

The Thunder posted a team score of 353 strokes for the one-day tournament to place seventh of nine teams.  St. Mary's (Ind.) College recorded the lowest overall team score at 293 strokes and was followed by Hope (Mich.) College who shot a combined score of 323 strokes.  Calvin (Mich.) College was third with 337 strokes.

Individually for Trine, freshman Jenna Doumont (Burlington, Ky./Villa Madonna Academy) had the lowest round for the team with 81 strokes (39+42=81) and finished in a tie for 10th place amongst the field.

Junior Mackenna Kelly (Angola, Ind./Angola) shot a 47 on the front nine and posted a 41 on the back nine to record a tournament total of 88 strokes on the par 72, 5,919-yard course layout to rank second on the team.

Fellow junior Lyndsey Welper (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion) was third with a score of 91 strokes (49+42=91) and sophomore Olivia Phillips (Muncie, Ind./Muncie) shot the fourth-lowest round of the day for the Thunder of 93 strokes (47+46=93).

Rounding out the team eligible scores was freshman Karlee Fackler (Fort Wayne, Ind./Heritage) who shot an even 100 (51+49=100) on the day.

Trine will compete in the final MIAA sponsored event before the conference championships on Saturday, Sept. 29 with the MIAA Jamboree #4.  Kalamazoo (Mich.) College will be the host school with the 18-hole round scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at Milham Park Golf Course in Kalamazoo, Mich.
