Thunder Finish Seventh at MIAA Championship; Second Round Cancelled

BATTLE CREEK, MICH.  --  The Trine University women's golf team will finish seventh in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championship after the second round of competition was cancelled due to weather and poor course conditions.

In yesterday's action, Trine finished with a team score of 350 strokes to place seventh at Bedford Valley Country Club in Battle Creek, Mich.

St. Mary's (Ind.) College won the event with a round of 304 strokes and Albion (Mich.) College was second with 336 strokes.  Calvin (Mich.) College rounded out the top three schools with a score of 342 strokes.

Trine was led by freshman Jenna Doumont (Burlington, Ky./Villa Madonna Academy) who shot a round of 83 strokes and is in 13th place overall.  Junior Mackenna Kelly (Angola, Ind./Angola) had the second lowest round on the first day with 84 strokes and is part of a tie for 14th amongst the field.

Junior Lyndsey Welper (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion) navigated the course in 87 strokes and the duo of sophomore Olivia Phillips (Muncie, Ind./Muncie) and freshman Karlee Fackler (Fort Wayne, Ind./Heritage) were the last of the team eligible scores with both firing rounds of 96 strokes.

The team concluded the fall season with the MIAA Championship.
