Thunder Women Finish Second at KZOO Invitational

PORTAGE, MICH.  --  Three members of the Trine University women's golf team finished in the top-10 to lead the Thunder to a second-place finish at the Steven Tyler Intercollegiate Invitational hosted by Kalamazoo (Mich.) College at The Moors Golf Club in Portage, Mich.

As a team, Trine finished with a combined score of 368 strokes to place second of five teams.  Albion (Mich.) College won the event with a team total of 356 strokes and host school Kalamazoo finished third with 372 strokes.

Freshman Jenna Doumont (Burlington, Ky./Villa Madonna Academy) posted the low round of the day individually for the Thunder with 90 strokes to place eighth overall.  Junior Lyndsey Welper (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion) and sophomore Olivia Phillips (Muncie, Ind./Muncie) also placed in the top-10 with both carding rounds of 92 strokes and finished in a tie for ninth.  

Junior Mackenna Kelly (Angola, Ind./Angola) finished two spots outside the top-10 in 12th place after firing a single round of 94 strokes.  Freshman Karlee Fackler (Fort Wayne, Ind./Heritage) rounded out the team-eligible scores and placed 19th with a round of 103 strokes.

Freshman Becca Baughman (Lake Orion, Mich./Luthern Northwest) also competed in the event, but as an individual, and recorded a score of 97 strokes which put her in 14th place among the field.

Trine is scheduled to compete in the Adrian (Mich.) College Invitational on Thursday, Apr. 18 at Lenawee Country Club in Adrian, Mich.  The event is slated to start at 1 p.m.
